Super Saltillo tiles are machine pressed, creating their rounded edges, smoother surface and slightly less pillowing, meaning they ar slightly flatter than Traditional Saltillo. Traditional Saltillo has angular corners and edges, along with more variation in size, and surface irregularities. The term "Super" does not imply that it is necessarily better than Traditional Saltillo. Both styles are considered authentic and have their own unique characteristics. Ultimately, the choice between Super Saltillo and Regular Saltillo depends on personal preference and the overall aesthetic desired.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Saltillo tiles are sourced exclusively from Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico. They are produced of pure natural clay and are 100% handmade. Saltillo tiles are available in many shapes and sizes, ranging from 4 inch hexagons to 16” squares.
Due to the handmade production process, Natural Terracotta tiles vary in size and thickness from piece to piece. This product is also rated high in color variation due to the kiln firing process. Variation in texture, sheen, size and color is to be expected. It’s an authentic terra-cotta artisanal craft-good. From kitchen backsplashes to patio floors, Saltillo tiles work well in almost any application.
VARIATION
RECOMMENDED USE
V3 MODERATE VARIATION: Notable variations in size, texture, flatness and color.
Variation ratings provide a general indication of the range of variation, but batches may differ in more or less consistency. It is not possible to choose a specific high or low range of variation.
It is normal to find natural indentations, bumps, divots, scuffs, and variations on the surface. Excess clay or minor chips may be present on the surface, edges, or back of the tile. Irregular marks or lines that resemble fold marks may be present, all of which are common characteristics of authentic, handmade terracotta tile.
COLORATION
Sealants are mixed and formulated to be lead-free Due to the nature of sealants and tile production, color variation can be prevalent. We rate each glaze color based on a variation rating system from V1(least)-V4 (most).
Colors differ from piece to piece. Some batches will have more color, sheen and texture variation than others. Natural color variations emerge during the firing process, which creates a range of colors that cannot be controlled.
The choice of sealer will impact the final color outcome. The size and shape of the pieces can influence the degree of color variation, with larger pieces showcasing more diversity compared to smaller ones.

Although gloss colors can be used for flooring applications but are not recommended for wet area and will have a lower slip resistance.

Helpful Install Tips
Consider crack prevention membranes, water proofing, flexible thin sets and grout for your installation, every project is unique and might require additional materials than our installation guides suggest! We recommend having a tile professional review your specific product prior to installation.
In wet areas and exterior usage, we recommend a top coat sealant.
For optimal longevity, we recommend sealing with Polish Top Coat (gloss sealant) or Ultra Low VOC Sealant (satin sealant) or Miracle Porous Plus 511 (matte sealant).

GROUT
TYPE We recommend Mapei Ultracolor Plus grout for most installations. You can also use any grout that is suitable for natural materials.
JOINT Grout joint spacing for Saltillo tile can vary from 1/4” to 3/4”; for tiles 6” and below, narrower joints generally produce a more modern aesthetic, while larger joint widths are suited for larger tile sizes creating a traditional look. Although a tighter grout joint may be achievable, we recommend consulting a skilled installation expert to increase the probability of a successful installation.
COLOR We recommend against high pigmented grout colors. High pigmented grout colors can stain the surface of glazed and unglazed tiles.

Our Clay is sourced and produced in Saltillo, Mexico. Terracotta Saltillo tiles are composed of all-natural clay, formed and finished entirely by hand with natural variations.
