PRODUCTION

Clay tiles are handmade in the San Miguel de Allende area of Guanajuato, Mexico. The white
clay is sourced and processed within this region. Each glaze is carefully crafted to achieve either
a matte or glossy finish, providing a range of options, and all are lead-free.

GROUT

TYPE We recommend Mapei Ultracolor Plus grout for most installations. This grout is stain-
resistant and does not need to be sealed after installation. You can also use any grout that is
suitable for natural materials.

JOINT We recommend between 1/8”-1/4" grout joint for rectified tiles, due to a natural
variation in size. An additional deviation of ± 1/4" is considered acceptable for joint
straightness. Although a tighter grout joint may be achievable, we recommend consulting a
skilled installation expert to increase the probability of a successful installation.

COLOR We recommend against high-pigmented grout colors. High-pigmented grout
colors can stain the surface of glazed and unglazed tiles.

TECHNICAL

VARIATION

V2 SLIGHT VARIATION: Slight variations in size (sizing is nominal), and some coloration (shade
and tone). Noticeable variations contribute to the handmade authenticity.

Variation ratings provide a general indication of the range of variation, but batches may differ
in more or less consistency. It is not possible to choose a specific high or low range of variation.

CRAZING

Clay tiles may develop crazing, which is characterized by fine cracks in the outer glaze layer. This
is a natural result of the manufacturing process and can happen both before and after
installation. In some cases, crazing may not become visible until several years post-installation.
Crazing does not compromise the durability of ceramic products.

COLORATION

Glazes are blended and created without the use of lead. Given the handcrafted nature of our glazes and tile production, color variations are quite common. We assess each glaze color using a variation rating system that ranges from V1 (least variation) to V4 (most variation). Some glaze colors may exhibit more differences in color, sheen, and shade than others.

CUSTOMIZATION

Customization for this specific tile line is not available.

RECOMMENDED USE

INSTALLATION + MAINTENANCE

Helpful Installation Tips:

  • Consider using crack prevention membranes, waterproofing, flexible thin sets, and
    grout for your project.

  • Since every project is unique, additional materials may be necessary beyond what
    our guides recommend.

We suggest consulting a tile professional to review your specific product before
starting the installation.

SEALING Although Recycled Clay tile does not require sealant, for extra protection in
wet areas and exterior usage, we recommend a top coat of Penetrating Sealant

Clay tiles are glazed and high-fired, making them a suitable for:

INTERIOR

  • Interior flooring

  • Mudrooms , Laundry, Entryway

  • Kitchen backsplashes / island

  • Bathroom floors

  • Shower floors

  • Shower walls

  • Fireplaces (surround)

  • Decorative walls

  • Commercial spaces (ie. restaurants, bars, retail stores, and offices)

  • Stair risers

EXTERIOR (Requires waterproofing, sealing and maintenance)

  • Exterior flooring (patios and porches in temperate climates)

  • Outdoor kitchens (mild climates)

  • Outdoor showers (warm climates)

HELPFUL LINKS

WARRANTY

The installation of tile plays a crucial role in the overall integrity of your project and
the tile itself. Therefore, we do not provide a warranty for this product and cannot
be held responsible for any material dissatisfaction after installation. We
encourage you to inspect all tiles upon receipt and to inform us immediately of any
quality concerns. Our guides are intended as a general resource; since every project
is different.

AVOID USE

Avoid use in these areas:

  • Areas exposed to harsh or frequent freezing temperatures

  • Commercial kitchens (floors or walls - does not apply to residential)

  • Water Absorption: 3% < 7%

  • Abrasive Resistance: C3

  • Scratch Hardness: MOHS 5

  • Dynamic Coefficient of Friction (DCOF): .65*

  • Shade Variation: V2

  • Not rated frost-proof

*DCOF is reference for matte colors only.

Although gloss colors can be used for flooring applications but are not recommended for wet area and will have a lower slip resistance.
