D'Hanis Red Terracotta tiles. The entire manufacturing process is
executed by skilled craftsmen from the region, passed down through

D’Hanis Collection

D'hanis Red Terracotta tiles are inspired by one of our favorite tiles that were produced in D’hanis, Texas for over a century. Original D'hanis tiles were commonly used
throughout the 1960s but are no longer in production.

Designers and architects took note and are now specifying Clay Imports’ D'hanis Red Terracotta tiles to achieve a Mid-century modern aesthetic. D'Hanis features a less
variation in coloration and size than Saltillo tile. Its natural red coloration, flatter surface and a smooth satin finish make D'Hanis red our most predictable terracotta tile.

Satin sealer offers protection against staining, water
absorption, and the development of patina with a subtle shine,
resulting in a semi-gloss, low-sheen finish.

The installation of tile plays a crucial role in the overall integrity of your
project and the tile itself. Therefore, we do not provide a warranty for this
product and cannot be held responsible for any material dissatisfaction
after installation. We encourage you to inspect all tiles upon receipt and to
inform us immediately of any quality concerns. Our guides are intended as
a general resource; since every project is different.

TYPE We recommend Mapei Saltillo Grout for a more traditional aesthetic. For
more color options, we recommend Mapei Ultracolor Plus grout.

JOINT Spacing for terracotta tile can vary from 1/4” to 3/4”; for tiles 6” and
below, narrower joints generally produce a more modern aesthetic, while
larger joint widths are suited for larger tile sizes creating a traditional look

COLOR We recommend avoiding high-pigmented grout colors. High-
pigmented grout colors can stain the surface of glazed and unglazed tiles.

D’Hanis Red Satin Terracotta boasts a rich hue derived from the
natural clay found in the Saltillo region of Mexico. D’Hanis
terracotta showcases one of the lowest levels of color variation,
classified as V2, yet some variation may still occur due to the
unique qualities of handmade tile production.

V2 SLIGHT VARIATION: Distinguishable differences in texture and/or pattern
within similar colors.

It is normal and expected to find natural indentations, bumps, scuffs, and
variations on the surface. Minor chips may be present on the surface, edges, or
back of the tile. Irregular marks may be present. These variations are common
characteristics of authentic, handmade terracotta tile.

Helpful Installation Tips:

• Consider using crack prevention membranes, waterproofing, flexible thin
  sets, and grout for your project.
• Since every project is unique, additional materials may be necessary
  beyond what our guides recommend.

We suggest consulting a tile professional to review your specific product
before starting the installation.

Although many tiles do not require top coats for extra protection, we
recommend our Ultra-Low VOC Sealant.

Saltillo tiles are pre-sealed, making them a suitable for:

INTERIOR

• Interior flooring
• Mudrooms , Laundry, Entryway
• Kitchen backsplashes / island
• Bathroom floors
• Shower walls - requires additional sealing and maintenance
• Fireplaces (surround)
• Decorative walls
• Commercial spaces (ie. restaurants, bars, retail stores, and offices)
• Stair risers

EXTERIOR (Requires waterproofing, sealing and maintenance)

• Exterior flooring (patios and porches in temperate climates)
• Outdoor kitchens (mild climates)
• Outdoor showers (warm climates)
• Most exterior areas not directly exposed to harsh or frequent freezing

Avoid use in these areas:

• Areas exposed to harsh or frequent freezing temperatures
• Commercial kitchens (floors or walls - does not apply to residential)
• Shower floors - avoid use in frequently wet areas, like shower floors
